Alcohol withdrawal seizures also called tonic-clonic seizures may occur 6 : 48 hrs after the last drink is consumed in alcohol dependent individuals , and can occur even if the blood alcohol level is high (e.g. greater than 0.10 g%) in severely dependent drinkers (By : Victor and Brausch 1967; Tartara et al 1983).


Alcohol-withdrawal tonic-clonic seizures prevalence is estimated at between 2 and 9% of


alcohol dependent individuals (By:Chan 1985). Individuals who have experienced an

recurrence within 6 :12 hours is estimated at between 13% & 24% in untreated


patients ( By : Hillbom et al 2003).


Alcohol withdrawal Delirium ( Delirium Tremens - DTs )



alcohol withdrawal Delirium is a disturbance of consciousness and changes in cognition or perceptual disturbance (By:American Psychiatric Association 2002).


Alcohol withdrawal Delirium Tremens usually occurs 48 to 96 hours after the last drink is


consumed but may take up to seven days to appear. Delirium Tremens usually lasts for 2


to 3 days, although can persist for several days (By:Mayo-Smith et al. 2004).


Hallucinations


Transient Hallucinations either visual or tactile may happen in 3-10% of patients at any stage of the alcohol withdrawal, in cases of severe withdrawal, (By:Trevisan et al. 1998).in some cases patients may also experience Psychomotor disturbances,Paranoia, and other delusions. Hallucinations may appear within the first 24 hours and in some cases Hallucinations last up to 3 days; however it can resolve within 24 to 48 hour
